What to expect from your photographer … and at what cost?

Words by Lauren Marks Crennan

The photography component of your wedding day carries a high degree of responsibility. As a wedding magazine editor and married woman, I cannot stress enough the value of a great wedding photographer. Over the past three years I have viewed in excess of 1000 wedding submissions. Many of these were captured beautifully with the emotion of the day almost seeping from the images. Some in fact made me cry with joy, as I imagine many guests did at the time. Unfortunately, others were a testament to the regrettable appointment of the services of a run-of-the-mill photographer.

A great wedding photographer will understand that it is a privilege to be chosen to photograph your special day. It is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness and capture intimate moments that can never be recreated. You must therefore feel confident when bestowing such a high degree of trust in your wedding photographer. You must believe that he or she will capture you and your husband at your best, the essence of the occasion (including the highlights of the celebration), as well as the little unguarded moments of emotion and theatrics that will happen randomly throughout the day.
